Qwen Image 2.1's Commercial License Restrictions Hindering Adoption
Problem
While Qwen Image 2.1 offers advantages in model size, native transparency, and speed, its license explicitly forbids commercial usage without a separate agreement, creating legal risk for users who wish to integrate the model into products or services. Multiple commenters highlight this restriction and express interest in its potential for design and UI generation, yet remain constrained by the licensing terms.
Pain points
- Restrictive commercial usage license
- More restrictive license compared to previous Apache license
- Potential for design/UI generation limited by licensing
Questions to verify
- Would you be willing to continue evaluating the model's performance after obtaining a commercial usage license?
- What is the integration difficulty of this model into real commercial projects?
- Does your understanding of the license terms affect product planning?

The text rendering definitely is much, much better than anything else on the open weights market right now. Small text fidelity is quite good. It seems like the text encoder however gets a little bit overloaded with larger prompts - note the presence of hex codes in the design output, those were inputs from the expanded prompt.
