Repeated debugging labor and skill-gap needs in ASIC/FPGA design
Problem
Combined from the post and comments, hardware engineers spend hours to days staring at waveforms and instruction traces during ASIC/FPGA debugging, and lack systematic methods to improve problem-solving skills. Users express fatigue with redundant labor and desire improvement via AI or structured training.
Pain points
- Spending hours to days staring at waveforms and traces during ASIC/FPGA debugging
- Lack of systematic methods to improve problem-solving skills for puzzle-like technical challenges, with limited efficiency from mere grinding
Questions to verify
- Whether tools exist that can automate waveform/trace analysis to significantly reduce manual staring time?
- Whether structured skill training systems exist to help users transition from 'puzzle grinding' to 'systematic problem-solving'?

AI is really good at debugging failing tests so I no longer have to spend hours - sometimes it was even days - staring at waves and instruction traces. Tbh that's one thing I won't miss.

Every time I see a Jane Street puzzle of this like I wonder in which way you can improve your problem solving skills for these things and how to extrapolate patterns from other things. I have a gut feeling that this is not only just grinding puzzles, there has to be a way to improve this. Curious if people have some insights on this
