Seamless switching of Magic input devices between two Macs
Problem
Users want to seamlessly switch Magic keyboard, trackpad, and mouse between two Macs without physical cables or the same Apple ID. Existing KVM switches do not support Magic Mouse, and software like Synergy requires configuration, while Continuity is limited to the same Apple ID, resulting in a cumbersome experience.
Pain points
- Switching Magic keyboard/trackpad/mouse between two Macs requires physical cables or extra hardware
- Existing KVM solutions do not support Magic Mouse
- Using Continuity requires the same Apple ID
- Purchasing an additional KVM switch or dock is costly and complex to configure
Questions to verify
- How do you currently switch input devices between two Macs?
- Have you used Synergy, a KVM switch, or other tools? If so, what limitations did you encounter?
- Would you prefer a solution that allows switching Magic devices without needing the same Apple ID?

Since I move a bunch of USB devices between my personal and work MacBooks anyway, I just wired my Magic Keyboard and Trackpad up to the same KVM switch and that works fine. However, it wouldn’t work for a Magic Mouse if I decided to use that, so I’ll give Magic Switch a try (especially compelling since it doesn’t require the same Apple ID as Continuity does).

Apple could just have a multiple device pairing indicator and switch like every other keyboard/mouse manufacturer on the planet, but of course they’re not allowed to implement any convenience features that escape the need for the ecosystem.

Hmm. I bought the cheapest kvm switch i could find (vga + 2 usb only) and ignored the vga ports for this. The advantage is it's cross platform.
